In a week of technical failures at BHBS, it wasn’t the smoothest of shows.
Nothing was the same volume off-air as it was on, all our levels visually were off the scale anyway, Ben couldn’t really hear himself, and as the playout system was broken – Geoff Rose wasn’t even on at 10pm for our live listeners. It just sounded terrible, in a lot of ways.

Ed’s been playing football this week, and his team lost. Badly (although not as bad as the last time).

Steff tells us youngsters about vinyl. Why is there different speeds? Does it really sound better than CDs?

Lack of staff and a boring week, means we don’t play All a Twitter this week, but we have a Twitter News section instead.

If anyone knows Bernie Clifton, we’d like to borrow the ostrich, to lend to a professional athlete. Well, Ed. We’ll convince him it’s a good idea later.

We steal one of Stephen Gardner’s features from his “A Link With Home” show, to play Double Vision. We even shamefully play a slightly cut down version of his jingle.

Thanks

Thanks to Ed and Steff for their audible contributions to the show.

In the week that Stephen Gardner has sprayed all over an old lady’s face, we’re off to a shaky start.

It’s the day that The Times Rich List comes out, and so we weren’t surprised Stephen had a big list to talk about. Sadly, it’s not the same list.

Ben and Stephen openly admit they know nothing about the economy. So it’s lucky then, that our award-winning newsreader Donald McDonald Donald, agreed to do a special news report about it.

As a high percentage of our listeners are female (and we all know women like horoscopes), we’ve got a horoscope expert to give you all the latest details about Pluto in Uranus.

The Thornbury Arts Festival after-show party, took place a day or so before our show. Not quite sure why because it didn’t finish until after our show, but never mind. Ben went down there to try and get some interviews with celebrities.

There’s a drum n bass remix of Kirsty MacColl’s “New England” on the show today. Ben’s not sure he likes it to be honest.

We attempt to do The Golden Minute competition again, after the shambles of last week. It didn’t go much better.

Our first listener to post on twitter that they’re listening to “The Music and Waffle Show”, contacts the show via alternative means to let us know.

Our number-covered wheel known as “The Randomizer” gets spun round, in order to pick out a record and play it. It doesn’t cause too much chaos.

Dr Ben steps in to answer more of your relationship/love problems.

We’re dedicating each show on ThornburyFM to a local person. This week’s show is dedicated to Martin Lynch, of Falfield.

Thanks

This show, we had a first class receptionist in the form of Ella.

It’ll never sound as good as the Music and Waffle Show, but starting this week, Requestline is in a higher quality (and stereo) than normal.

It’s a noisy show tonight with noisy doors abound, and Dave Ashworth signaling his return by sitting in BHBS’ creakiest chair.

Ben has dedicated tonight’s show to Mike in Ward24, in the hopes he’ll phone in with some requests, and it worked.

James has had a good long hard filling this week.
He was also worried about choking at several points of the same day.

In the first 5mins of the podcast, we even get talking about lesbians.
There’s not enough photographic documentation for us though.

Mike in Ward24 has a couple of requests. The first one we’ve left in a little bit of, for our podcast listeners to enjoy.*

Stephen had to leave early tonight, so James played ‘All a Twitter’ against new studio member, Ed Jost – for the first time.
Ben talked annoyingly off-mic throughout, but other than that, it went very well.

Steff has a nice request for her niece who’s just had a baby. Sadly, BHBS’ cd players are refusing to play any of the songs she wanted.

Well done to Bob Evans, ship steward on the SS Great Britain, on his award.

What with all the requests, there was no time for rummaging, but never mind.

* Ok, it’s quite obviously not the version we played on-air. It’s not even our work. It’s one of Lard’s ‘classic cuts’. RIP ‘Mark and Lard’.

In the first show back of The Music and Waffle Show, the audio is sounding crystal clear (and podcast now in stereo), even if Ben Park and Stephen Gardner are interrupting and talking over each other.

James Wilson isn’t there, and nor is Randy Lightpurple, due mostly to an earlier incident. We’ve got Mr Lettuce though. He helps out on the show, answers the phones, etc. Oh and he’s also a lettuce, so can’t really talk.

If you could invent anything at all, what would it be? We put this question to the listeners.

Ben wants to play New England by Kirsty MacColl again. It’s a remix that Ben isn’t sure he’ll like.

The Randomiser/Randomizer is back.
If you’ve never heard it before, it’s an enormous wheel covered in numbers, that we put somewhere in the UK, and spin it.
The resulting number it lands on, corresponds to a song in our database. Then we play the song.
If only there was an easier way to pick a song to play.

We’ve got a brand new competition where you can win a great prize, called “The Golden Minute”. We’re running it instead of the Baker’s Dozen, which we’re unable to do.

This is dedicated to…

We’ve dedicated each show on ThornburyFM to a local man. This week’s show is dedicated Bob Scuttle, of Grovesend.

The Music & Waffle Show – back on Sunday!

The Music and Waffle Show returns this Sunday 19th May, at 10am on ThornburyFM.

James won’t be there, but Ben and Stephen both will be. There’s a trailer for the show here.

If you’ve never heard it before, it’s Ben and Stephen mucking about on a show that’s considerably better planned than Requestline.
This Sunday there’ll be news from the award-winning Donald McDonald Donald, love advice from Dr Ben, and as it’s the Thornbury Arts Festival starting today, we’re hoping to get a live interview with someone performing there.
We’ve also got Mr Lettuce assisting in the studio, and the biggest man-made object in the world – The Randomiser – on the show.

Ben wants to play a certain record by Kirsty MacColl, if there’s time.

How can you listen?

Well, if you live within a few miles of Thornbury, you can listen on any radio, at 87.7 FM. Tests at the end of last year proved you could get it in Filton, and just about as far as Horfield Leisure Centre. Sadly, it doesn’t reach to Bishopston.

For the rest of the world, you can listen online at http://www.thornburyfm.org. Twitter will be active as always (see left), and you can email the studio at any time (but ideally between 10am-noon on Sundays) at studio@thornburyfm.org
You can also text us live, by sending the word “Thornbury” plus your msg to 07766 40 41 42 (texts at your standard network operator rate)

For online listeners, there is a webcam, but it’ll likely spend most of it’s time on Ben’s ugly mug.
